The Item Upgrader in World of Warcraft
The War Within introduced two gear upgrade currencies: Valorstones and Harbinger Crests. They can be traded at the NPCs of item upgraders Cuzolth and Vaskarn.
Each item can be upgraded to its maximum level only once for one slot. Upgrades to that slot are then cheaper afterward. The pity system, which was introduced with The War Within, also lowers the extreme upgrade variance.
Upgrades
Upgrades are components that improve performance or add new functions. They can be purchased or earned through various ways, including in-game events as well as from cash shop items.

Rerolls
Rerolling is an essential tool in Genshin Impact, or any other gacha game. It lets players re-try their chances of getting an item or character they desire to have for aesthetic reasons or because they feel that it would fit well on their team.
Rerolls allow players to refresh items for the current wave in exchange for a small amount of material. The prices of these weapons increase when the number of rerolls in a row increases, though some items may not be available at all (for instance weapons that are melee will never appear for players who can only use weapons that are ranged).
When item upgrades is levelled up it is placed in the Staple Pool and gains extra bonuses. These bonuses are based on the kind of item it is. For example an upgrade that increases a weapon’s main stat can also boost its other stats. If the item is rerolled then the extras will change.
Once a player has enough stamina to complete a reroll they can press a button with circular arrows to swap their current item to a different one. The new item will be of the same level, but will have it will come with a different set of bonuses, depending on whether the original item was a gun, sword or watch, or a book.
Rerolling cannot alter the bonus levels of an item. However players may have to meet the minimum stats for its special ability. This can make it challenging to get a high-level item that has the bonus they want however it allows players to look for a different alternative in the future, without having to invest more resources.
The process of upgrading an item doesn't just improve its extra bonuses, but it will also give the item a boost in tier, meaning that it's guaranteed to get a specific amount of bonus stats when upgraded in the future. It is important to only upgrade your equipment to the extent you can, since additional upgrades won't make a difference.
Sets

It is not a sure result, and there are instances where an upgrade will not alter the type of the base item.
It is recommended to upgrade your BiS (Best in Slot), then move on to non-BiS, items. This will ensure that players have an established base to build upon when they level up, and they can concentrate on boosting their tiers and increasing their stats.
